Never in my life had I expected to become an author. And never in my life had I expected so many beautiful reviews and comments about my book. Never in my life had I expected to touch people in a way that made them open up to me. Never in my life had I imagined that my book, my story, my words could give others a voice of their own. That’s very humbling and I’m honoured to do so and I’m dedicated to continue spreading awareness about this unusual and life-threatening drug allergy. And I’m just as dedicated to making psychological problems and psychiatric illnesses a topic as normal as talking about the weather. Anyone can be affected, by anything, at anytime.
In 2012 I had TEN (Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis), a life-threatening allergic reaction to a drug. In just a few days I lost 65% of my skin. A series of medical and psychological traumas followed (an inner tornado) that caused me enormous fear and sadness for ten years. When I broke my ankle during a holiday, this turned out to be an important moment in my healing process. I managed to put all my experiences on paper. The document became a manuscript, the manuscript a book and the Dutch version was published on Friday, November 17th with the titel ‘Gebroken – niet gescheurd‘.
On August 22nd 2024 the Swedish version was released with the titel ‘Välj då Livet‘.
I am so very proud about this book being published in English as well, both as Kindle e-book as paperback!
My purpose with writing this personal document is besides giving my children the opportunity to read my story, also to spread awareness about TEN. My highest goal is to give others the feeling they are not alone in surviving this life-threatening disease and at the same time inform others (loved ones/friends/medicals) what a life-changing effect this allergic reaction has.
Thank you to all of you that have helped me in any way during the process of my ten years with TEN. From getting ill to putting my story into words and getting it translated into both Swedish as in English. I’m so grateful for the supporting words, constructive feedback on the original manuscript plus the translations. The thoughts, the help and the economic resources – for the English translation. Your time, your prayers and the uncountable amount of tissues. 🧡
